SUMMARY:Ofala Igwe Nnewi
DESCRIPTION:The Ofala Festival is an annual ceremony practised by Igbo people\, particularly the indigenes of Onitsha\, Umueri\, Umuoji and other neighbouring communities such as Aguleri\, Nnewi and Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area. It serves as a rite of renewal of the king or Igwe or Obi and it is similar to the Igue Festival in Benin and the Ine\, Osi or Ogbanigbe Festival in many mid-West Igbo communities of Nigeria. The term ofala\, is derived from two Igbo words – ọfọ (English: authority) and ala (English: land). The festival is celebrated within two days mostly in October by the Obi (English: king) and is a customary obligation that must be performed every couple of years without fail. \nThe festival usually starts with a traditional twenty-one gun salute followed by an all-night Ufie (royal gong) drumming\, dancing and other cultural activities. In the afternoon\, the Obi’s cabinet of chiefs\, guests from other communities\, age groups\, women and youth of the community usually throng the palace grounds or Ime Obi dressed in traditional or ceremonial attires befitting the festival occasion. The royal music or Egwu Ota is played during the entrance of the Ndichie or red cap chiefs who arrive after the gathering of the crowd and bringing along a few of their friends and family members their procession to the palace. The highlight of the festival is the emergence of the Obi in his royal regalia to the cheer of the crowd\,[5] a cannon shot announces the entrance of the Obi who is usually dressed in ceremonial robe and carries a bronze sword on his hand\, he walks to the sides of the arena or a third of the arena acknowledging the cheers of the gathering. The Obi then retires and subsequently\, the red cap chiefs pay homage to him according to seniority\, thereafter both the Obi and the Chiefs reappear after the firing of another cannon shot. During the second appearance the Obi dances in the arena\, something that is rarely seen and his steps cover more distance than the first appearance. Then the visiting chiefs and guests pay homage to the Obi. The festival is also sometimes an occasion for the Obi to honour individuals with chieftaincy titles

DESCRIPTION:Although coach Uche Okagbue’s men fought hard in their final game\, they were condemned to their fifth straight defeat by the Flying Antelopes\n\nIfeanyi Ubah ended their campaign at the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super Six on a losing note as they were thumped 4-2 by Enugu Rangers on Wednesday at the Agege Stadium\, Lagos. \nThe Anambra Warriors had lost their earlier four games against Lobi Stars\, Kano Pillars\, Akwa United and Enyimba but they had hoped to bow out on a high against the Flying Antelopes. \n\nCoach Gbenga Ogunbote’s team are eyeing a possible continental football ticket and only a victory against the ‘whipping boys’ would give them a fighting chance depending on how things pan out in the two other games. \nIt was not surprising that the Flying Antelopes came off the blocks strongly at the Soccer Temple. \nRangers needed just seven minutes before they had their heads in front as Chiamaka Madu fired in the first goal after being perfectly set up by Micheal Uchebo. \nThe Flying Antelopes created a handful of chances after their first goal but they failed to convert them until they finally got it right in the 42nd minute when Chidera Ezeh’s volley was deflected by Jimoh Gbadamosi into the net. \nAlthough coach Ogunbote’s men were happy going into the break they came out looking for more in the second half. \nFive minutes into the second half\, Rangers extended their lead further\, this time it was Christian Madu that fired in the third. \nWhile it was looking like Anambra Warriors will be decimated in their last outing in the championship play-offs\, the youthful team reduced the deficit moments after they let in the third goal through Chibuike Ezeh. \n\n\n\n\n\nEzeh was on target again for the Anambra Warriors in the 55th minute as a comeback was now looking possible. \nHowever\, the Flying Antelopes restored their two-goal lead when Godwin Aguda in the 64th scored from the penalty spot after a handball incident was spotted by the referee in the Anambra Warriors’ box. \nRangers held on to their two-goal advantage until the final whistle was sounded and they would now wait to see the outcomes from the other games to know if they would get a ticket to feature in the Caf Confederation Cup again next season.
